What I Read this Weekend!

Here are a few of the books I read this weekend....just kidding! These very large books are at the entrance to a place called Never Never Land, it is about half an hour from our home and used to be a favorite place of our daughters. Over the years it has gotten a bit run down and a lot of things have gone missing. A very large Humpty Dumpty used to sit atop the books, but sadly he went missing years ago. Scattered throughout the woods are little houses belonging to fairytale characters, the Three Little Pigs, Hansel and Gretel, Little Riding hood etc. It used to be so much fun watching our daughter run in and out of the houses poking her head out the windows waving to us. It really is a shame that it has gotten into such bad shape, as it is such a fun place for little ones to let their imaginations run wild. I remember a few years back our daughter came with us to visit Never Never Land again, well of course she just had to see if she could still fit in some those tiny houses, well lets just say that it took her a little longer to get out of some of them and leave it at that! He's back! What a surprise my husband had this weekend, he was pruning and tidying up the rose that goes over the arbor leading into our back yard, when he saw something move, then out popped our little garter snake, I am not sure whose got the biggest surprise, so he dropped his pruning shears and picked up his camera. We were quite amazed that he could wiggle in and out of all those thorns, now when ever we have to go under the arbor to get into the back yard we can't help but look up just in case, I don't know what I would do if a snake fell on my head!Well I thought I'd end today's post with something a little prettier and calmer, this lovely swallowtail butterfly happily sitting on my tomato plants, of course she probably is laying eggs, and when they hatch, all those wonderful little caterpillars will no doubt devour some of the veggies in my garden....and that is why I plant extra so there is enough for everyone.

Have a lovely Monday everyone.

What a surprise to find your little Benjamin Bear in my mailbox today! That sneaky Beth! I had been watching him on your Etsy shop, but while at my mom's last week I didn't have time to do much on the internet, so I didn't notice he was gone! And now he's here! Now that I see your handiwork up close and personal, I'm even more impressed at the detail work and loving care you put into your work. Thanks for the fun goodies in the box, too. Have a great week!

P.S. I'll be posting some pics of Benjamin in his new home soon!

We uses to have a Never Never Land here in Southend, but like yours it got run down and eventually closed. It was a shame as I liked to visit it when I was younger and it was there for a while.... It's such a shame when places have to close...

Hi Kathy, your hubby had his camera right on handy! I'm crossing my fingers and saying a little prayer that he doesn't fall into anyone's hair for real (smile). I hope everything goes well with the auction - it's for such a great cause.

Your little butterfly is so still and peaceful - thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures. It's a shame that Never Never Land is fading, it sounds like such a fun place for little ones. There's nothing like playing outside and having fun.

Beautiful pictures Kathy! It is sad about Neverland. There just are not enough places where kids can be kids - the grow up too fast these days. It is really sad as being a kid is so much fun. We are waiting out another storm warning - Edouardo - we are 50 miles in from Galveston Bay so hopefully it will not be too bad. These hurricanes are unpredictable though - am sure we will experience high wind and rain.

Who on earth can have Humpty Dumpty and how are they hiding him! I jump when I unearth a frog, let along a gartersnake, are they poisonous? I haven't ever seen a swallowtail alive, I only remember from a child my parents had one preserved in a frame, I remember how spectacular it looked. These butterflies are now very rare in the UK and confined to the fens of the Norfolk broads, due to there being a good food source of milk parsley which the caterpillars feed on. x

I just saw a caterpillar in my tomato plants! I'm not having very good luck yet with them. I don't think we have any snakes... maybe that makes for some beautiful flowers like you have! I think I would have loved Never, Never Land as a child too!
